This folder contains version 1.0 of HyperCard IIGS. HyperCard IIGS is a“for-sale” product that is fully copyrighted work of Apple Computer, Inc. HyperCard IIGS is not considered a “Developer Essential” and will not be on the d e v e l o p CD-ROMs (a beta version was on issue #4’s CD, but current plans call for no future issues to include the HyperCard IIGS package). If you have a need to distribute any part of HyperCard IIGS then contact Apple’s Software Licensing department at 1-408-974-4667 and license it.
HyperCard IIGS requires Apple IIGS System Software 5.0.4 or later, at least 1.5 (one and a half) megabytes of memory and a hard disk.
Our purpose in providing HyperCard IIGS on the Developer CD is to provide access to this technology for our Partners and Associates. Non-Partners and non-Associates are expected to purchase the full product ($99 suggested retail price). If you want/need the manuals for this product, then please contact Developer Programs to determine the developer pricing on the complete package (only the software itself is provided on the Developer CD). The full package is also available from APDA and can be ordered by non-members through APDA’s “Developer Tools Express” channel. Contact APDA at 1-800-282-2732 for more information. Please refer all cutsomer requests for HyperCard IIGS to an authorized reseller or to APDA.
Appendix A of the HyperCard IIGS Script language guide details how to interface to external XCMD and XFCN routines. Preliminary interface files for compiling XCMDs and XFCNs can be found on this CD, along with sample XCMD source—in APW format in the HyperCard IIGS folder of the ProDOS partition and in MPW IIGS format in the HyperCard IIGS folder of the Macintosh partition.
Note: The XCMD Pascal sample has been updated for easier maintanence and clearer coding style. Some new functionality was added an this newer version will generally be easier to use as the basis for third-party XCMDs.
A separate conversion utility (HyperMover) can be found on this CD. HyperMover consists of two stacks - one for use under Macintosh HyperCard and one for use under HyperCard IIGS. HyperMover will dismantle a stack into a series of files. Transfer the resulting files to the other computer (from a Mac to a IIGS or vice versa) and reassemble the stack using the other half of HyperMover. The latest version of HyperMover supports translating Macintosh stacks into IIGS stacks and vice versa. Futher details on HyperMover can be found in the folder containing this conversion utility.
In order for you to properly install HyperCard IIGS on your hard drive, drag its folder (“HyperCard” at this level) to the root level of your hard disk, and drag the “HyperCard.Icons” and “FType.HyperCard” files to the icons folder on your hard disk. If you put HyperCard IIGS anywhere but the root level, be sure to edit the icons that connect your stacks to HyperCard IIGS and be sure to edit the search paths in the Home stack - otherwise, HyperCard IIGS will have problems finding things.
Important: Test Information
HyperCard IIGS 1.0 fixes a bug in the beta release of HyperCard IIGS that caused stack corruption. Please check all of your existing stacks for corruption by opening the stack named Stack.Checker. This stack is found in the HyperCard IIGS folder on the ProDOS partition. After opening the stack, click on the “analyze” button and select the stack to be checked. Stack.Checker will report whether any corruption is found. If you discover corruption, and if you are an Apple Partner or Associate or other official recipient of this CD, please contact Apple II Developer Technical Support immediately at “AIIDTS” on either AppleLink or MCI Mail.
Note: All stacks created with HyperCard IIGS 1.0 will be free from corruption.
